I am a struggling artist. No, I am not painting private masterpieces during the day, busking on the streets at night, or sleeping in my car. But, I do struggle to make time to create and to have the boldness to share my creations with the world (except I share my boys, of course).
If God is The Creator and we are made in His image, that means we were made to create! Congratulations! We are all artists! But what good is it to write, paint, or even bake, if we don’t share it? Can you imagine if God hid away His creation from us and decided that the beauty of the mountains, the taste of strawberries, and the sound of a child’s laugh were just for Him to enjoy? What a sad, lonely life that would be for us and what a selfish god!
Thankfully, God made the world and everything in it, said it was GOOD and then placed us in the middle of it all to enjoy and to see His exceptional creativity on display. Can I get a hallelujah? Talk about generosity - for giving us coffee, chocolate, and whiskey alone, I would be grateful to eternity. Except for, when I’m pregnant, which is kind of an ironic twist that I am just noticing…
The Bible encourages us to faint not in doing good, so we must not lose heart when we take part in creating. That means YOU - remember when I said that thing about how we are all artists? Good, you were paying attention. :) God made each of us uniquely to make something and if you are bold and put that something out there, you never know the impact you might have on someone’s life. I think it is impossible for any kind of art to not have an impact if it is shared.
If your lack of confidence is holding you back from sharing your art from the world, STOP IT. Confidence is no reason to deprive the world of the wonder that is YOU and the creativity that flows through you ALONE.
If you think that the world has too many singers, painters, writers, bloggers, or whatever for you to make a difference, STOP IT. No one thinks like you or can impact certain people with the way that YOU do whatever it is you do.
I am talking to myself too. As I begin this blog, I feel quite insignificant in cyberspace. There are so many voices out there with so many good things to say. But my prayer is that you will be encouraged by what is shared here.
So not only do you get to read my writing (woot!) but also this blog will include my meager attempts at photography, poetry, music, cooking, videography and child-rearing (yes, it is an artform :) ) so that you, lucky you, can enjoy my attempts at artistry. But don’t worry - I know that I am not the bee’s knees at any of those things really, so I will be sharing some artists that have honed their crafts and are bold enough to share them with the world. And trust me - it is GOOD!
So, faint not, artists everywhere. God created you and you are good.
