Welcome to the birth of a blog. A little anticlimactic? It’s OK- we’ll get through this together.
None of us has it all figured out. I am just a mom living in the suburbs, married to a youth pastor, and trying to raise my three boys the best way I know how. Our culture teaches us to be uber-independant (yes, I used the word uber), to strive and struggle in isolation, with the promise that arriving at our goal will be that much more rewarding because we did it all by ourselves.
I have tried to do it by myself. I sat on the floor with my premature twins, hooked up, two-boob, to a breast pump, holding pacifiers in their mouths with both hands, crying and begging God for help or the sweet release of death. I think it looked something like this:
What a pretty picture of success and self-reliance that is, right? This is no way to live. Period.
Life is hard and we need encouragement; we need one another. The main thing I want to accomplish in this life is to follow God, do good, and become more like Jesus. This cannot be done without community or being authentic - we must be open with one another about the struggles we experience. We all need to hear “You are not alone!”, “This stuff is hard!” “You will make it through this!”. In other words, “Faint not, friend.”
This is a blog about life, my struggles and successes as a wife, mom, minister and artist. I am speaking, World, OK? I hope you are listening.
